Owner of RediATM network aiming to protect production in its Sydney data centres

Owner of the RediATM network, Cuscal Limited, has announced it will implement a new backup system aimed at protecting production and disaster recovery in its data centres.

The new disk-based backup system will operate across Cuscal’s Sydney production data centre and its Lane Cove disaster recovery data centre.

Cuscal’s manager of infrastructure services, Michael Magoulias, said the project is an important one for the company.

“Our underlying requirement for this project is to update the backup technology and where possible, to realise efficiencies,” he said.

Choosing to partner with Tecala for the project, Magoulias said an existing relationship with the vendor was the catalyst for joining forces once again.

“They [Tecala] first came on board to assist us with an issue that we couldn’t get rectified by other parties almost two-and-a-half years ago,” he said.

“They’ve since won a lot of our business because of what they were able to prove back then.”

Cuscal’s existing tape-based system will be replaced with a disk and online alternative as part of the project, with the hope that tape media, library and management costs will be reduced by around 90 per cent.
